What a brilliant day of art, observation and creative exploration for our Year 12 and 13 Art students
Today, our students headed into the heart of Valencia with their Art teacher Rosie and their tutor Paul for a full day immersed in modern and contemporary art, photography and urban inspiration.
The morning was spent at IVAM – Institut Valencià d’Art Modern, where students explored Habitar les ombres by Cristina García Rodero, España Oculta and the powerful work of Kara Walker, alongside other exhibitions of their choice — with a special focus on photographic storytelling, symbolism and visual narrative.
From there, the group moved to Central Market of Valencia for a hands-on street photography workshop, capturing candid moments, light, movement and atmosphere in one of the city’s most vibrant locations.
After lunch and free time in the city, the day concluded at the stunning Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero, housed in the beautifully restored 17th-century Valeriola Palace. Students discovered an exceptional collection of contemporary art, including works by internationally renowned artists and impressive site-specific installations created exclusively for the space.
A truly inspiring day that combined culture, creativity and real-world artistic practice — well done to everyone involved!
