Our Year 12 Design students have been working on a meaningful, real-life issue: food waste and sustainability in schools.
Through research, collaboration and design thinking, they analysed the causes of food waste and developed practical, socially responsible solutions.
Some teams proposed composting systems and a school garden, transforming waste into resources and promoting the idea “I eat what I grow”.
Others focused on food donations to local food banks, reinforcing the importance of community engagement and social impact.
Several groups combined both approaches, demonstrating a holistic understanding of sustainability.
This project reflects our commitment to education that goes beyond the classroom, empowering students to think critically, act ethically and design solutions that matter.
At English School Los Olivos, we believe that design education, sustainability and social responsibility are key to preparing young people for the future.
