Year 4 visit La Alquería del Machistre: Horchata Route, tile workshop and traditional tasting
Our Year 4 pupils from English School Los Olivos enjoyed a memorable educational day at La Alquería del Machistre, one of the key locations for discovering the famous Horchata Route and the traditional process behind tiger nut cultivation in Valencia. This trip is part of our commitment to providing cultural school excursions in Valencia and promoting meaningful learning outside the classroom.
Throughout the visit, pupils explored detailed models, took part in hands-on activities, learned how tiger nuts are grown and followed each step of the traditional horchata-making process. They were able to see, touch and experiment with the tiger nuts at different stages and even helped prepare their own mixture.
The day continued with a beautiful tile-painting workshop, where each pupil designed and decorated their own handmade ceramic tile, connecting with Valencia’s rich artistic heritage.
To finish the experience, pupils enjoyed a delicious tasting of freshly made horchata with fartons, discovering one of the most iconic flavours of our region in a natural and historic setting.
At English School Los Olivos, a British school in Valencia, we believe in experiential, cultural and place-based learning. Activities like this not only enrich the curriculum but also help our pupils connect with local traditions and create lasting memories.
