Our History
Behind every student, every classroom and every experience at Los Olivos is a story that has been built over time with care, dedication and a passion for education.
This is our journey: five decades of learning together, growing as a community and staying true to a clear and enduring educational vision.
Our Story
1976 - The beginning
English School Los Olivos was founded as a British nursery school in a traditional Valencian farmhouse surrounded by centuries-old olive trees.
An open, natural and welcoming setting where English was part of everyday life from the very start.
Late 1970s - A different approach to education
From the outset, the school embraced an educational philosophy inspired by Montessori, Freinet and Piaget’s theories of child development.
Natural learning, care and respect for every child’s individual pace became the foundations of our approach.
1981 - Growing and evolving
The school expanded to include Primary and Lower Secondary education.
To support this growth, the school moved to Campo Olivar (Godella), enabling us to offer a British education up to the age of 14.
1984 to 1989 - Building for the future
A new school building was constructed, bringing together all stages of the Spanish E.G.B. (3-14) education.
In 1989, our first cohort of students completed this stage, marking an important milestone in the school’s history.
1996 to 1998 - Secondary Education and first IGCSE examinations
A dedicated Secondary building was opened and the school introduced official IGCSE examinations.
In 1998, our first group of 16-year-old students graduated, another significant moment in our journey.
Late 1990s – An established British School
English School Los Olivos became firmly established as a British school and a non-denominational teaching cooperative, built on values, multiculturalism and education through English.
2001 to 2003 – Sixth Form and university pathways
During these years, Years 12 and 13 (Sixth Form) were introduced.
Students began taking A level GCE examinations and preparing for entry to both Spanish and international universities.
Today – 50 years of education
Fifty years later, the school remains true to its original spirit: a warm and welcoming environment with a strong educational vision, where everyone knows one another and every child is valued as an individual.
