A group of five students from Year 10 and Year 11 represented our school at the 12th annual Valencia Model United Nations (VALMUN), held at the American School of Valencia. Accompanied by our History teacher, Ms. Claire Thompson, our delegates took part in three days of thought-provoking debates, collaboration, and diplomacy alongside over 270 students from schools across Spain, Luxembourg, and Morocco.
The central theme of this year’s event, “Technology Advancing and Cultural Conflicts,” challenged participants to tackle global issues such as artificial intelligence, cultural heritage preservation, autonomous military weapons systems, and the environmental impact of electronic waste. Each delegate represented a specific country, working together to negotiate and draft resolutions using official UN procedures.
Participating in Model United Nations conferences like VALMUN is a truly invaluable experience for our students. It develops critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, while also fostering a deep understanding of international issues and diplomacy.
We are especially proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Alejandra Forés, who was recognized as Most Improved Delegate for her remarkable contributions in her Human Rights committee. This is a testament to the dedication and preparation our students demonstrated leading up to the conference, as well as their active engagement during the debates.
Congratulations to Alejandra, Ms. Thompson, and all our delegates for their efforts and for representing our school so admirably. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in future Model United Nations events.
