Year 11 students recently travelled to Madrid for a day trip designed to help them explore first-hand some of the most representative places connected to the 19th and 20th centuries, a historical period they are currently studying in both Social Sciences and Spanish Language.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real historical and cultural settings in the heart of the Spanish capital.
One of the highlights of the day was a visit to the Congress of Deputies, where students were able to see the parliamentary chamber and learn more about the functioning of Spain’s democratic institutions. The group also visited the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, one of the country’s most important museums of modern and contemporary art.
In addition, students took part in a historical-literary walking tour through several emblematic areas of the city centre, discovering places closely linked to Spanish writers, cultural movements and key historical moments. During the route they passed by the historic Ateneo de Madrid, an institution that has played an important role in Spain’s intellectual and cultural life, and stopped near the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, one of the most influential figures in Spanish literature.
This enriching experience allowed students to better understand the historical and cultural context of the topics they are currently studying, while enjoying a day of discovery and learning in one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural capitals.
