Year 7 students recently took part in an engaging Egg Drop Challenge as part of their Science lessons on forces.
The activity was designed to help students understand key concepts such as gravity, air resistance and impact forces through practical application. Working in teams, they were challenged to design and build a parachute capable of protecting an egg when dropped from a height.
Students carefully planned their ideas, selected materials and tested different designs, aiming to maximise air resistance so that the egg would descend as slowly and safely as possible. The school balconies provided the perfect setting to put their creations to the test in real conditions.
This hands-on experience encouraged creativity, critical thinking and teamwork, allowing students to see how theoretical knowledge can be applied to solve real-world problems.
🏆 The winning team, “The Eggcellent Girls” — Sofia, Celia and María — stood out for the effectiveness of their design, successfully protecting their egg during the drop. They were presented with an Easter egg prize.
A fantastic example of active learning in action.
